The Scot Collin Montgomerie is the legend par excellence in European golf. Montgomerie won the European annual ranking eight times and is considered one of the best Ryder Cup players of all time. Other things have also earned the son of the club secretary of the prestigious Scottish golf club Troon unmistakable status: his emphatically fine rhetoric, his dramatic defeats at major tournaments and a certain tendency to blame the slightest noise in the audience for missed shots. In the meantime “Monty” has been awarded the British Order of Merit and has long since become more relaxed. This was the only way he could deliver his masterpiece as captain of the 2010 Ryder Cup. In one of the most exciting matches of all time, he led Europe to a memorable victory against the USA.
