Golfing alone is fun. Even more fun is golfing in a group or tournament. What you need to know, how a golf tournament works and what you need to know can be found here:
Registration
In the individual clubs there are betting calendars. The dates for the tournaments can be found in these calendars. As a rule, a registration list is posted on the notice board in the clubhouse at least two to three weeks before the tournament. There the names as well as the master data are registered.
Preparation (at home)
Shortly before the tournament you should ask for your starting time. It is also advisable to have the necessary utensils such as rackets, balls, etc. ready and to allow yourself a little rest.
Scorecard/star fee
In any case, you should allow some time before you tee off. First you should pick up your scorecard and pay the entry fee. Check briefly whether all details such as name, handicap, starting time are correct.
Preparation (on the course)
Before it finally starts you should hit a few balls, putt, chipping, etc. And just don’t rush. Experts recommend to allow at least 30 to 40 minutes for this.
Equipment – what should be included
No more than 14 clubs are allowed. You should also think about weatherproof clothing (rain jacket), umbrella, food and drinks, enough balls and tees and a towel. It is also not wrong to carry a rule book with you.
Starter
The starter releases the tee shot. One should follow his instructions.
Ticket exchange
The scorecards are exchanged randomly, if there is not already a counter written on it.
Honour
It is usual that the player in the group with the lowest handicap starts on the first tee. The further order is ascending according to the handicap.
During the round, the honour is automatically determined by the best result at the previous hole.
Counting
It may be difficult, but in addition to your own game and your own shots, it is still very important to pay attention to how many clubs your teammate needs before you can hole up. If it comes to questions of rules, the counter has to decide with the player what should happen. If there is a disagreement, the betting committee or the referee has to be called.
Etiquette/Fairness
It is actually a matter of course that you should remain calm when your team mates address the ball or help you find the ball.
Speed of play
As a rule of thumb: if there is a whole track free before your own flight, you play too slow! This can lead to penalty points or penalty shots.
Special scores
The most common are “Nearest to the Pin” at par three holes and “Longest Drive” at par four or par five holes. There are also other special scores which are described in the tournament announcement.
Scorecard comparison
A must after the round: Counter and player compare the scores entered. Afterwards the score cards are signed by both of them and have to be handed in at the tournament management. In principle, each player is responsible for his own score card. Ladies
A “lady” is a ball that has not made it past the ladies’ tee. Then, as a rule, a round is due for the teammates. Award ceremony
The award ceremony will take place after the tournament. You should attend this, if there are no serious reasons not to, if only out of respect for the performance of the other players.
