Sports betting is becoming increasingly popular. Increasingly, the focus is also on sports that are not among the biggest crowd pullers in Germany. Of course, you can also place bets in golf and multiply them with the right instinct. But what is the best approach for beginners?
Golf is not a classic betting sport
In the usual ball sports or motor sports, it’s easy. You bet on the presumed winner of a match or race and collect the winnings if you are right. In golf, it is not always advisable to bet on the person who will ultimately emerge as the winner. Due to the completely different structure of the game and the large number of players taking part, beginners and possibly newcomers to golf should choose a tactic that promises more success.
Better chances with match betting
This refers to the so-called head-to-head or match bet. Here, you select two golfers from the field of participants and only observe their performance; completely independent of the winner or the podium places of a tournament. It does not matter whether the athletes compete one after the other or have completely different starting numbers. As if they were facing each other in a duel, you bet on one of them in the belief that they will perform better than their opponent over the course of the tournament, i.e. they will need fewer strokes on all courses combined. If you ignore the odds, you are therefore faced with a fifty-fifty chance, as a draw in golf is considered extremely unlikely and is not normally bet on.
Betting experts take a close look at their favorites
Whether it’s the US Masters, Open Championship or PGA Tour, the major tournaments are of course the most popular when it comes to betting on golf. After all, golf fans are relatively familiar with most of the names of the competing athletes and with a little research, anyone can find out who likes which green best. Less suitable for beginners, but all the more exciting, are smaller tournaments that take place across Europe every year, for example. Many newcomers compete here whose performance cannot be accurately assessed, which makes it difficult to place a promising bet. Nevertheless, it is worth attending, as young talents may make their breakthrough here and qualify for the majors. If you have kept a close eye on specific players during the off-season and know how to assess their performance as an attentive follower of the sport, you can place exciting match bets on them in subsequent tournaments, for example.
