Topgolf, a golf entertainment concept from England that plans to openend its first course in Germany in fall 2021. And you can already see that they have big plans. The opening has taken place on January 21, 2022, here are all the details.
“With 102 teeing grounds on three floors, 50-metre-high outdoor nets, space for 1,200 guests at the same time and a 20,000 square meter outdoor area, the largest Topgolf facility outside the USA is being built here in Oberhausen. We are delighted to be bringing an internationally successful trend to continental Europe for the first time with Topgolf.” This is how David Speiser, CEO of licensee Greenreb, welcomed the guests at the preview event on the construction site.
The Topgolf company is expanding the model into other countries as a kind of franchise system. Greenreb Deutschland GmbH is Topgolf’s licensee for Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland.(As reported)
Support from local politics
Speiser emphasized the great support in the region and symbolically presented Lord Mayor Daniel Schranz with the very first Topgolf club for the facility. The Topgolf facility will create around 450 new jobs in the Oberhausen area.
All Topgolf balls have a microchip which, together with the 640 chip readers, evaluates with millimeter precision whether and which of the 11 illuminated targets has been hit. Toptracer technology is also used: cameras track balls that have been hit and enable an exact view of the trajectory on the screens at the teeing ground. This enables extraordinary game modes in which the real world merges with the virtual world – completely without VR glasses.
“We want to impress through the experience. To this end, we are always creating new events – seasonally or for individual target groups,” says Speiser. Most guests first get to know golf at Topgolf. In our experience, Topgolf is of course also very popular with golfers internationally. However, Topgolf has so far only been represented in countries where golf is generally more popular than in Germany. So it will be exciting to see how the course is received after it opens in Oberhausen (near the shopping center there).
