If you play golf, you need golf tees. They originated in the early days of golf, because even then many people found it more pleasant to tee off from a small elevation. In the beginning, these were small heaps of sand – as we explain in our history of golf tees – which have been transformed into today’s form by means of various patents.

Today golf tees are small pens, mostly made of wood, sometimes also of plastic. They are put into the ground at the tee (and only there), the ball is then placed on them. This process is also called “teeing up”. The teeing ground itself, the rectangular and usually elevated lawn at the beginning of each fairway, is also called a tee.
Like golf balls, golf tees are also standardized. A normal tea is 2 1/8 inch (about 5.4 cm) long. It must not be longer than 4 inches (10.16 cm). For the winter, when the ground is frozen, there are special winter teas. These can be placed on the floor and do not need to be drilled into the ground.
An overview of different golf tees
Soft Teas
The basic idea is identical for all variations of soft teas. Since the material is not solid, like wood for example, it cannot break so easily. This makes the tees last longer, the swings are not slowed down and the balls fly better. Such versions of teas are available either with bristles (Brush-T), for flaps, made of flexible plastic or other natural products.
The biodegradable golf tee
The often lying around wood fragments of the burst golf tees are annoying not only for the greenkeepers. That is why there are also golf tea variants that are biodegradable. Therefore, they can safely remain lying around until they disappear naturally.
Plastic golf tees
Besides classic materials such as wood and new, degradable materials, there are still plastic golf tees on the market. These are problematic in several respects: they damage the racket, are not degradable, so they must be collected and recycled. The Bayer chemicals group, for example, launched a golf tee made of the plastic Makrolon on the market, but this did not catch on.
Golf tees from buffalo horn
In some countries golf tees made from buffalo horn are used. The natural product must be brought into the right shape for this purpose. There is no other difference to classic teas. Learn more about teas from natural horn.
Teas as an advertising medium
Since golf tees are a typical article that golfers constantly need, they are also a popular advertising medium. Similar to golf balls, they can be printed, like the model of the “Klapp-Tees”, the Driver Tee.
