The greatest honor for a golfer is to be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame is supervised by the World Golf Foundation. The organization was founded in 1994. The control of the admission has the merger of 26 golf organizations around the world.
The Hall of Fame is located in St. Augustine, Florida and, unlike many other sports halls of fame, honors celebrities of both sexes. And not only golfers are admitted, but also people who have rendered outstanding services to the sport of golf. The category “Lifetime Achievement” was introduced for this purpose. This category includes Bing Crosby, Bob Hope and the 34th and 41st Presidents of the United States of America Dwight D. Eisenhower and George H. W. Bush.
Honour and criticism for the World Golf Hall of Fame
Golfers who have rendered outstanding services to the sport are inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine (Florida). It is a hall of fame of golf, where male and female golf celebrities are honored. In the integrated museum there is a permanent exhibition about the excellent golfers and an exhibition about the history of this sport. Anyone who has a course in the 1998 and 1974 Pinehurst (North Carolina) World Golf Hall of Fame is one of the best golfers of all time
Credit where credit is due
The small town of St. Augustine on the north coast of Florida enchants its many visitors with its winding alleys and Spanish fortifications. But most of them come there to visit the Golf Hall of Fame.
Admission to the World Golf Hall of Fame is a great distinction that requires outstanding sporting golf success. These are of course necessary to be eligible for admission in the first place, and for this a victory in the Club Championship would not be enough. A prerequisite for the immortality of a golfer with the admission to the Hall of Fame are The golfer should have achieved at least ten victories on the PGA Tour, have at least two major victories or have two triumphs at the Players Championship. The selection for inclusion is made by a panel of golf honors, members and golf journalists. However, a future Hall of Famer must achieve at least 65 percent of the committee votes of the committee. In 2013, the Hall of Fame will include the American Fred Couples and the Scot Colin Montgomerie, among others.
Criticism of the selection for the World Golf Hall of Fame
The selection of the committee is not always satisfactory for some golfers and criticism is sometimes hailing. Thus thousands of golf fans expressed their displeasure about the two golfers who were admitted in 2013. Raymond Floyd, (four-time Major Champion and member of the Hall of Fame since 1989) also criticised the selection of the committee. All of them could not understand why someone was accepted into the Hall of Fame with only one major victory. Names were not mentioned, but everyone knew who was meant. Fred Couples had one major win and “only” 15 PGA Tour wins. The disapproval of the golfers selected in 2013 led to no new inscription in the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2014. It was not until 2016 that the honourable ladies Laura Davies, Mark O’Meara and Albert Warren Tillimghast were reinstated.
By the way…
By the way, the most famous golfers in the World Golf Hall of Fame are the actors Bing Crosby and Bob Hope as well as the former US Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower and George H. W. Bush. The German professional golfer Bernhard Langer has had his place in the Hall of Fame since 2002.
